It looks like a nice and easy tool...testing...

    I get an avisynth error
    Code:
    script error:syntax
    filenname.mpg.TEMP\filename.avs, line 11, colum 17
when I open mpg2s and vobs. I have avisynth 2.5 installed.

What path are you using? Can you post your script? Thankyou very much for trying you're the first person that's told me about an error, which is great.

Does the same happen when you use a different path?

OK, I've done a quick patch, extract this over the other 'exe' in the installation folder and can you tell me whether that now works, thanks.

I did a quick convert of a 1:32 minute VOB file. Seemed to work just fine. Of course, given only the option to aim for 350MB made the file end up at 79.9MB. Not good for small files. Only large ones.

Otherwise, kudos. Will this be open source? What language are you programming in?

EDIT: Just noticed I can specify a bitrate.

Also, would it be possible to add a minimize button to the window? I like to minimize these things as they run.

You can choose whatever size you want. Just input the desired size in the box so you could have chose 4 or 8 or whatever MB.

A nice feature, is to make it handle all kind of DVB sources too! There is no such tool yet...

    DVB transmissions in Europe can be 352, 480, 528, 544, 640, 704 and 720 X 576, with bitrates from 1K up to 15.000! All are 4:3 and the audio is .mp2

If your tool could keep the audio mp2 "as is" and convert any DVB source to xvid and later multiplex it again with mp2. this tool could be ideal for people that wish to convert DVB to XviD for smaller filesizes!

The "Download" link at "http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=avi.NET" brings you to this forum. Where might one download the software itself?

    @SatStorm:

I've never had/used DVB sources, don't even know what they are..... What format are they? My program already handles mp2 files (mpa - extracted from SVCD). What format extensions are used in DVB?

If you could get a sample to me that would be great? upload somewhere or email as long as it's only 8 MB or less.

My prog wouldn't keep the mp2 though on the xvid, I cant ever recall seeing an xvid with mp2, I'd just convert it to mp3... is that a problem?

Unfortunatelly, I'm not able to upload a DVB file

DVB is interlace mpeg 2. The extention can be mpv, mpg and rarelly m2v. Usually, it is mpg

In a way is like an interlace xSVCD, encoded CQ with 1800 minimum 6000 maximum!

There is not a problem to convert the audio to mp3, but since you already have it mp2, why to make it mp3? Most dvb channels use 192kb/s audio at 48000khz. You save time and audio quality if you keep it as is

And about combatibility, yes, there is no any xvid with mp2, from what I know either. But I don't think there's gonna be a probleme... mp2 is equally compatible with mp3 on PCs (and more compatible on DVD standalones, because mp2 is what VCD, SVCD and region 2 DVDs use!)

If you convert a SVCD to XviD and you keep the audio as is, it does play back correct (I done that in the past for testing reasons!). So why not the DVB?

Just an idea of mine, never tested!

Just a thought..... Doesn't it do them already?

What happens if you load one in and try to convert?

Just to let everyone know we're on beta11 and it seems most, if not all bugs have gone and avi.NET seems to be pretty stable now.

I have not been getting any news of any bugs or crashes for a while so things are looking up

All are not 4:3, some are 16:9 too. Some channels send ac3 audio too. But there's no big difference compared with DVD conversions.

Does DGIndex 'handle' DVB sources? If it does I can add support for them as long as they're MPEG2.

But I can do anything about them unless I get hold of a sample.

    Yes that would be great.

Can you upload them somewhere..... I don't have an FTP server or anything. How big are they? Can you mail them? I can set up an FTP server if that's are only option.

The size depends on bitrate and playing time. The bitrate is around the same as DVD. 60 seconds would be something like 30-40 MB.

Cool, that's fine by me, my email is in my profile.

By the way I messed up with the installer so if you downloaded v0.2.b4 before 21:15 BST (GMT+1) then please re-download.

The problem was program freezing during MULTIPLEXING....
