ok i guess i updated to the newest firmware and burned several movies on a dvd with subs, but when i try to play the movie+subs only the movie plays. anyoen know whats up?

If it's a divx disc, you need to select the subtitle file in the menu before selecting the movie. Also, some sub formats may not be compatible.

If it's a DVD format, the subtitle button (should) allow selection of subtitles if the disc contains them.

SRT subtitles work the best. also, before burning it on the CDR, i believe you have to also make sure to resave the SRT using a subtitle tool, like subrip, vobsub's subresync, or subtitleworkshop. you can't open it in notepad and save with it.

also, i think someone posted about the size of the subtitle file. they said it wouldn't work if it's bigger than 100KB. however, i had a 110KB subtitle file, and it worked fine for me.

2. srt i am not sure what srt is. i just know its .sub thats all. but they load when i play it on my computer using bs player right click>subs>look for it>load

You need to highlight the subtitle file in the Menu, then select it by pressing the "subtitle" button on the remote. You will see "Divx subtitle selected". Then you start the film by highligting the film on the menu, and pressing either OK, or the Play button on the remote.

And yes, it's not a bad idea to run your subtitle file through something like Subrip first because it will tell you if you have an error in the file.

You probably want to check your subtitles first by playing them on your computer. The filename of the film and the subtitles have to be exactly the same (except for the extension: .avi, .srt). They don't have to be named the same however to be played in the dvd player. Just select the subtitle file as above.

.srt files have a size limit of around 140kb. If you have a larger one than that, you should use something like subrip to convert the .srt to a .sub (microdvd) file. With a .sub file the framerate is important. .Sub files go by the number of frames, whereas .srt files go by time (hours, minutes, seconds, milliseconds). Therefore, you should use GSpot to open your video file, and it will tell you your framerate - 25 fps for PAL and something like 23.976 for NTSC.

i will try tonight but...(this info might not help at all) if i just do play on the sub my screen goes black and nothing shows up. don't know if that can verify anything or if was important to mention

What is the button trick to make the subs BIGGER? I can't find it anywhere.

sounds like you sub file is corrupt. the screen shouldn't go black...it should stay at the menu and a message stating divx subtitles have been selected should appear. try using one of the programs listed above to verify your sub title file.


the size is controlled by the firmware....and you shouldn't hijack threads.
