  1. Hi major.

Just tried to install ffmpegX on my machine running OSX Tiger (8A428).
The following messages prevents me from installing succesfully:

##/bin/sh: line 1: cd: /usr/local/share: No such file or directory

I´ve already repaired disk permissions, no success.

Maybe we need a small fix in the installation script?

  2. Tiger will be available on april 29. Version 0.0.9t of ffmpegX will be released subsequently, to handle an installation procedure suitable for Tiger.

  3. In the meantime, you can make 0.0.9s work on Tiger by running the following command in /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app:

    sudo mkdir /usr/local/share

Type your login password blindly when requested. Then run again the ffmpegX installer.

  4. Thank you major.

This is really incredible. Everybody is talking about Dashboard and Widgets, but ffmpegX unveals the real power behind Tiger. Just did a quick encoding test to realize it is about 15-20% faster on a PB G4/667 than running with Panther.

    Great

  5. I must be dumb. I just get:

mkdir: /usr/local: No such file or directory

    After using the command:

    sudo mkdir /usr/local/share

    Any ideas?

  6. I've got the same message. Can someone explain how to install, please. Thanks

  7. Then copy/paste the following in Terminal.app

    sudo mkdir /usr/local ; sudo mkdir /usr/local/share ; sudo mkdir /usr/local/lib ; sudo mkdir '/Library/Application Support/ffmpegX'

Then run again ffmpegX and proceed with installation.

  8. I obtain this message in terminal : Last login: Fri Apr 29 21:30:03 on ttyp1
    Welcome to Darwin!
    [G4:~] mfmourgu% sudo mkdir /usr/local
    mkdir: /usr/local: File exists
    [G4:~] mfmourgu% sudo mkdir /usr/local/share
    mkdir: /usr/local/share: File exists

Then when I launch the install of ffmpeg, I've got this alert :
the installation wa not successful. ##cp:/Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/mpeg2enc:no such file or directory.

  9. Then type sudo mkdir '/Library/Application Support/ffmpegX' in Terminal and run again.

  14. ffmpegX 0.0.9s uses ffmpegXbinaries230105. Follow the instructions at http://homepage.mac.com/major4/download.html

  15. I can't too instal ffmpegX in Tiger.
    I get this message "##cp: /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/mpeg2enc and /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/mpeg2enc are identical (not copied)."

  16. It appears you already have mpeg2enc. Don't install it again then.

I had same trouble in OS 10.3.9 before and 10.4 yet.
I found one think that helped me fix it:
I downloaded all binaries again from links, that showed ffmpegX and replaced.
    And that fixed.

  21. As for the missing mencoder. I have the same problem on my fresh Tiger install.
I created the necessary folder (see mkdirs above) and then I've downloaded the latest releases located all 3 files - install went smooth. When I reopen FFMPEGX it asks for mencoder again.

Hopefully that issue will be reolved in the next release coming up any day now, right?

BTW, I don't mean to complain all the time. FFMPEGX is a great programm and I want to thank major for his continued support.

  22. If it asks for mencoder again, check if your mencoder is 6636100 bytes as the correct version should be.

You know, since I have been waiting so damn long for a fix to this problem, I have found another application that does the job I need. It is called HandBrake 0.7.0 and it works like a charm. No problems it is fast and effective. While I liked FFMPEG, I have to be honest, I feel really let down. To be concentrating on a release so far into the future, and have people hang with this damn problem is not very wise...

But at least there is always some other application that works for your benefit.

too bad cause I really liked ffmpeg.

  24. There is no big problem with version 0.0.9s, and I had no consistent report of any problems on Tiger apart the need of creating a couple directories by hand. Release of 0.0.9t has taken some time because of ongoing work on version 1.0.0, which counts already over 20 000 lines of code.

If you have a problem with 0.0.9s, you should send a clear report of which error/issue it is, either here in the forums or preferably by email to major4@mac.com together with a screenshot showing any errors, and I can tell you that in 99% of the cases the issue can be resolved in minutes.
