  1. what's the best media format that combines quality and size? I usually use .wmv to store files on my cpu and save space. Is there anything better than that? Does anyone recommend any others? avi? I save clips every so often and they end up taking space up that I could compact into a lesser format (for the highher quality clips). Any sugestions

XviD is a codec, wmv is a container. You want a low over head container or a efficient codec? I guess both if size is the primary concern.

.nut is supposed to have the lowest overhead but I don't think it is at all useable at the moment. So I guess that leaves mkv, although I am not sure how the overhead of a AVC mp4 compares to an mkv.

For really low bitrates I would go with AVC either via Nero or x264. RV9EHQ/10 would be another option or VP7.

For audio I would suggest either vorbis or he aac.

Best I've seen (even if I'm no expert in this) is actually Nero Digital. I was very impressed with the results, encoding from a DVD.
