It should be easier to rollback SP2 than install ME. You might have to reformat your hard drive, especially if is formatted with NTFS under XP to Fat32 under ME. If THAT is the case, then all your files on the C:\ drive go bye bye.

I agree with Soopafresh. Just rollback SP2.

Roll back? Maybe that's your problem. How did you upgrade? Xp over ME? or Fresh install?

If you went XP over ME and also went NTFS then I doubt there would be any going back to ME and it's Fat32. If you kept the fat32 intact then perhaps that is leading to some of your problems.

Maybe we can sort out your problems with SP2 and then you won't have to "roll back" to Windows ME. Going back to ME from XP Sp2 is sort of like getting your balls caught in a bear trap. Not much fun for you. Too many people complain about issues with SP2 and don't realize that they could fix everything with a few driver updates.

Yeah Windows ME is really not a good OS. What problem are you having with SP2?

Also the question about how you installed XP (ME Upgrade or Fresh install) is VERY valid.

  7. Uninstall XPSP2, and rerun the XPSP1 install over top, then turn off automatic updating, windows time, and about 30 other useless services.

You need to be more specific. What are the registry errors ? Describe the procedure you did to install Windows. Did you reinstall XP, or install ME ?

  11. Turn off anti-virus in the BIOS.
Set BIOS to "Non-PNP OS Installed".
Disable com 2 if you're not using it.
Set primary display to whatever type of card you're using.
Use the hard drive manufacturer's utilities to wipe the drive (write 0's to it), then boot to the XP CD and install.
