  1. Dear all,

This is my first post in this forum and I must say that I am quite new to the world of VCD. I have been studying the pages on here quite a bit to learn what its all about, and produced some VCDs.

I have tried several templates but not all produce a good result on my DVD. Therefore, I have been mainly using Pinnoys template (so hopefully you (Pinnoy) we read this and can help me) so that I can get the best sound possible on my VCD.

However, I have made some changes to the template. This is because I noticed that the sound file is encoded at 160000 bits and 48000Hz using SCMPX as reccommended. Therefore, on TMPGenc I have increased the sampling rate to 48000Hz to try and get the best sound after encoding. I have found that it produces a more bassy sound without any clipping of the high frequencies.

However, using 48000Hz causes the picture become jerky as a result (and I guess at close inspection you could also argue that it slows the film down a little as an hour film segment encodes to a file about 1:06 in length).

But when I have used 44000Hz to encode the audio, the video is nice and fluent but the sound becomes a little distorted (sounds 'tinny') at the high frequencies again (noticeable in 6th day in scenes with women and children).

Therefore, is there away to encode the sound at 48000Hz while still maintaining a good fluent video stream?

I hope this all makes sense, and I really hope someone will reply to this message, even if it is to say NO its impossible. As at least it would put my mind at rest.

And also if the answer is no, would you suggest making do with
    (a) perfect picture with distorted sound
    (B) jerky picture with higher quality sound.

    Manys thanks for your time.

    Scott

that was alittle bug on my guide with the bitrate with SCMPX the bitrate should be 224 not 160....so use the bitrate 224 on SCMPX ...on TMPGEnc the sample rate should be 44.1KHz not 48KHz that is not a standard in VCDs..but i curently gave Baldrick and update to the guide and it will fix those bugs and instead of useing SCMPX i use toolame and SSRC with TMPGEnc to encode the audio

and i have found that encodeing it with toolame and SSRC gives better quality audio then the SCMPX method

  4. Cool thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Hope this doesnt sound stupid. But I have downloaded toolame, but where do I get SSRC? And also, will you be explaining how to use these in your new guide you spoke of?

If not, if its not too much trouble (and I don't want to be an inconvenience). If and when you got time, would you be able to explain the steps of using toolame instead of SCMPX from the point after Vob2Audio. As I still don't know what all the options mean otherwise. Sorry.

Oh, also coming back to SCMPX. Do you still encode with Method II with 224 kbps?

yeah i will explian it on the new guide and you can get SSRC here:

and like i said i dont use SCMPX beacuase i found that useing toolame and SSRC with TMPGEnc makes better audio qaulity

and i have sent a update of my Templates to Baldrick
