photos on DVD NOT slideshow

I want to put photos on a dvd, but NOT in slideshow format...I just want the same photo to stay on the screen until I tell it to change. When I tried to brun them as data, and put them in my player...they switched like a slideshow...is that the way I recorded it, or a function of my player?
