In my experience I've found that Sony Sound Forge
is the best, easiest and finest way to edit and cut MP3's and WAV's
    and much much moooooooore features....
so I advise you to try it and you'll get exactly what you want....
    (((((IMPORTANT: Sony Sound Forge

  3. Goldwave will do most of what Soundforge will do.
Audacity is slightly more limited, but free.

  4. well....I don't mean to defy you..
    but as I know Audacity can't edit MP3 !!!!!!
it just can edit wav files and convert it to .WAV
    or .MP3 files....
but GoldWave is so acceptable but oooops
(((you have to pay for it)))

AFAIK all audio editors will convert the file to a wav format file before editing if the file is not already in wav format. That is what Audacity is also doing. So Audacity can edit MP3.

My favorates are Goldwave and CoolEdit Pro. If you have Nero installed, it also includes an audio editor that isn't too bad.

for features and ease of use i must cast my vote for cooledit/adobe audition. Most applications with that many features require a bit of a learning curve, but i loved cooledit from the first time i used it .
