north american dvd player compatibility in asia

hi there can some one tell me if i buy a dvd player here, would it be compatible in asia?? i have a multisystem tv there ie. it plays all NTSC, PAL SECAM, just about everything.
I wasnt too sure, i went to buy a dvd player and the sales person told me that a cheaper one wont one i'll have to buy one that over 200 bucks.
so just making sure here if that true.

I dont think it makes a diff. I think you would be OK as long as the connections are the same on the back of the TV and the Power.

The only problem I can see are the region code settings.
Here is a list of whats,what

REGION 1 -- USA, Canada
REGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland
REGION 3 -- S.Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Parts of South East Asia
REGION 4 -- Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (including Mexico)
REGION 5 -- Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Africa
REGION 6 -- China
REGION 0 or REGION ALL -- Discs are uncoded and can be played Worldwide, however, PAL discs must be played in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit.

if you buy a DVD player here it would have a RC of 1, so if you play a DVD that you have bought in ASIA it would have to be region free.

As for PAL/NTSC/SECAM I know that USA and JAPAN are NTSC, most or all of Europe is PAL/SECAM(I could be wrong,Idont know for sure)

also I don't know about voltage...USA players are 120 and I think the rest of the world is 240, so you would need transformer to step down the voltage from 240 to 120 for the player or you would smell something burning
