  1. I got a copy of a DVD and don't know how to play it. There are .VOB .IFO and .BUP files in the VIDEO_TS folder, which isn't an ISO or anything I can mount with D-Tools and play with VideoLAN. Is there anyway I can play this with free software?

i'm going to make the assumption that you have some type of PC-DVD player software installed on your system

step 1) create iso image of the video/audio_ts folders with imgtool classic

step 2) mount iso with daemon tools

step 3) watch with PC-DVD software

You stated your files are in the VIDEO_TS folder so you don't have to make an ISO image. Open your dvd player software and browse to the folder that has your compliant dvd files.

i suggested the iso because any PC-DVD software should play it because the iso will be mounted as a virtual drive.. some PC-DVD software will not play from a VIDEO_TS folder on the hard drive.

  5. The only thing I have that can play DVDs is VideoLAN which doesn't seem to be able to play the files individually, but it can play ISOs. I'll check out the isotool that was suggested, thanks

Are there any other options? How common is it for DVD's to just be unrar'ed into a folder rather than a ISO? It doesn't seem very convenient...

PowerDVD - Just open the VIDEO_TS folder instead of all of the files inside.

Use Videolan: Locate the .VOB files in 'QUICK OPEN'
    No2: We want Information.
    No6: You wont get it!

  9. I've tried the PowerDVD and WinDVD demo before and I'm pretty sure they both had some lame limitation where it would only play for 5 minutes or so... was that changed?

VideoLAN can play the .vob files but I don't know what episode I'm on and I could be wrong but they don't seem in order...

30-day trial, the only limitation is DVD-Audio with protection.
