I followed your guide and am getting an ac3 file but it only plays on the front speakers. Divx2DVD's ac3 files play on all the speakers. Is anyone else having this problem?

  5. TMPGEnc Sound Plugin AC-3 encode to Dolby® Digital (AC-3) 2 channels audio
But some DVD players allows mixing 2 chanels to all speakers.

That's why I was asking because when I use VSO's Divx2DVD it also encoded the audio to AC3 but I can hear the audio through all the speakers unlike when I use TMPGenc's plug in. Maybe it's the kb's?

I think the source of divx file have AC3 for all speakers 6 channels.
TMPGEnc Sound Plugin AC-3 encode to Dolby® Digital (AC-3) 2 channels audio for 2 speakers only.

  8. I tried to convert a 2.22 GB WAV file to AC3, following the tutorial and nothing happens. Is there perhaps a file size limitation with TMPGEnc Sound Plugin AC-3?

There is a buffer size problem with wav files over 2 gigs in winxp when trying to play and when trying to add to the soundplayer it wont encode, what you can do is add the wav in tmpgenc dvd author when you add the video files.Tmpgenc dvd author will encode to ac3 if you have set it to do so in the option screens.

    Thanks for the reply johns0!

The footage that I had originally taken with my DV camera was approx. 4 hours long, so I decided that I was going to burn it on to a DVD+R DL disc. I used DVD Video Bit Budget Calculator to find out my optimum bitrate for the MPEG-2 video encoding and chose Dolby Digital 192kbps to calculate the audio. I then used Main Concept to encode my footage, using PCM for the audio (no AC-3 support), so the file ends up being larger than the 8.5 gig. When I try to author the footage and re-encode the audio in TMPGEnc DVD Author, my system seems to hang and then I get an error message.

I always used large files in DVDit PE, which exceeded the 4.7G limit, I would just select to re-encode the audio in AC-3 and it would encode without any problems... I sure wish it supported DL.

It would be best to chop the video in 2 parts during encoding and add both parts into the same track during authoring, that way you can encode the 2 wavs thru roma_turoks guide.

    1. I need to increase the sound volume of a dvd movie. So need to extract the ac3 file from the dvd, then convert it to linear pcm Wav format so that I can increase the volume, then convert it back to ac3 and recreate the dvd by multiplexing it with video stream.
But if I copy and paste said ac3 file to tmpgenc sound player and try to encode it to wav, this program after a short while closes.

    2. Thus I have tried another way. I have extracted wav from dvd movie using Magix audio cleanix 2005 obtaining a wav for each VOB, then merged them to obtain one Wav only; then I have increased the sound volume of this Wav with Magix software; then I have loaded this last Wav into tmpgenc sound player and obtained ac3. The final result of this exercise was not good because in the resulting movie the video and audio streams are slightly not synchronized.

But apart from that, curiously I tried to re-convert the last ac3 to wav through tmpgenc sound player, but the program could not load said wav, I do not know why.

What's wrong If I cannot convert back to wav with Tmpgenc Sound Player an ac3 file just made with the same software?

Without wishing to take away anything from the above giuide, an even easier way of converting is to import the .wav file into DVD Lab then use Tools to select the TMPGEnc to AC-3 (plug-in). It's pretty much automatic after that. You can even do a batch conversion for multiple .wav files.
