I just got this new burner yesterday as I have read great reviews and that it can write 8x at 12x. I installed it in a freshly rebuilt Win2k system, updated the firmware to B7P9 and set off to burn. I attempted a DVD iso with DVDdecyrpter and it would only burn at 1x (varied from 0.7 to 1.1). So I rebooted and tried another burn with a VIDEO_TS folder in Nero 6 with a different media (Ritek G05 compared to a TY I tried first). And the same thing. It said it was burning at 16x but took well over an hour to burn. This is my 4th burner and I have never had an issue like this. My media tests out with Benqs Qscan upto 8x. I have now just flashed to B7T9 and no change. Could someone offer suggestions. Thx in advance.

  2. Sounds like your computer is set up for pio mode and not dma. Do a search on this site and you will find what you need.

BENQ DVD burner is picky about media. I upgraded the firmware of my DW822A to DL(BLC-2) and some of my existing -RW won't work. It was OK in the past. Try stick to + media.

btw i burn dvd-r with my benq 1620 and have no problems at all. use either firmware B7P9 or B7T9. just don't use PRODISC because the BENQ 1620 doesn't seem to like that media code. it's well documented in the cdrlabs forum.

Try toggling write speed in DVDDecrypter, then leave it at 8x or whatever speed QScan recommends. I had a few do the same thing when write speed was set at "Max" in DVDDecrypter. Good luck.

Check out the BenQ hardware sub-forum at cdfreaks. IMO the firmware for this drive is not yet completely satisfactory. That said, I'm delighted with mine.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
