I am hoping someone can help me solve my problem. I just got a Mintek 1600 player from eBay from someone who appears to be a reputable seller. When I pushed the open/close button, the tray would only come out halfway.
I contacted the seller and he said it might have been "jarred" during shipping and for me to try "rejarring" or "tugging on it".
I tried tugging on it a little, and it didn't work. Tried juggling it, still didn't work.
I then took the cover off of the whole player, then took off the spindle plate so that the dvd tray was exposed. At this time, I "could" get the tray to go out all the way (with the cover off), except to do it I had to press down on one side of the board that is holding the laser mechanism, "tilting" it.
I thought I might have solved the problem by repositioning the laser board, so I proceed to replace the spindle plate. I then tried to open the drive and it it only opened halfway again. I tried every position I could think of for the laser board and none of them worked.
Is there some "trick" to fix this problem, or am I totally SOL? I would appreciate some help ASAP since I have a limited time window to return this item. Thanks!

It's broken. Don't buy junk from eBay. That's about a $40 player. And not super-great at that.

Then could you tell me where I can but a Mintek 1600? I currently own another one besides the dead one and it has been great....
All of the current DVD players in the stores that I have tried aren't capable of reading my DVD-R or CD-R discs that have severa raw .mpg (mpeg 2) data files on them.
    Any recommendations??

  4. Have you looked at the Philips 642? There's a lot of discussion of it here, it would in all likelyhood play your discs well. Do a search for more info on it.

It does look like it might work, but it also seems to be a difficult player to find in stock (except on eBay)...
    Any other suggestions?

I just got another one from Amazon. Move fast as $63 delivered is a rock bottom price. They will probably be back in stock in a week if they stay true to form.
Still a few bugs in the system...
