[MiniDVD] Pioneer DV-525 MiniDVD - help!!!

Hi there,

I'm looking for any help on getting MiniDVD to work on the Pioneer DV-525 player. I scoured the Net, only found one article indicating it was possible, however the author didn't leave details on how this was done.

I tried a test in Nero6, and a test in Ulead DVD Workshop 2, but neither disc worked in my player (I think the player thought it was a CD, but the timecode counter was running up faster than it should've). I tested playback on the PC using PowerDVD and that played the MiniDVD fine, so I don't think it was an authoring problem.

I checked my firmware on the player: F=1.084(4) AV1:7

I don't know what the second number in the firmware display is either, in case anyone asks. I heard there was a newer firmware (version 2.x). I don't know what that firmware adds.

Does anyone know if this is possible? I've been making CVDs and they've been working out great, but after hearing about MiniDVD, I figured I could author that instead of CVDs and benefit from the nicer DVD menu/navigation features, rather than the somewhat limited VCD/SVCD/CVD formats.

Very few DVD players will play mini-DVD. My old Sampo will but no other player I've tried will. If the mini-DVD played on your computer in PowerDVD then you authored it correctly. But if your standalone player will not play it, there's nothing more you can do.

Well, if someone out there said it could be done, I have to exhaust the possibilities, slim though they may be. I know that few players can do it, but the newer Pioneers are capable, maybe there's someway to upgrade the firmware to get miniDVD playback.

That's what these forums are for - the slim chance that someone else has had the same question or problem that you have, and possibly a solution.

Yes a firmware upgrade would be your only hope.
