i have an old wharfdale dvd player, i burnt a disc on my mac ( -r) , it will not play on the wharfdale, is this curable, ie - a hack, it's a -r disc, it will play dvd got from rentals ok, i-e films.

have you tried different -r media?
does the disc play on other players?

Had the same prob about 18 months ago, I brought a new DVD player because of this, but hey guess what the kids put a copy in the wharfdale last week and it worked!!! go figure, i guess it was the software/discs i was using back then. have since upgraded to latest Nero and CloneDVD and used ritek g04 or g05 discs and it plays everything i've backed up in the last 6 months.
