  1. I've got a Divx file that's encoded as HRHD, which won't play on my Pioneer 575A - I guess because it's hi def. There's no picture, but the DD 5.1 sound plays OK. I'd really like to watch this file for the DD sound, is there a way of converting the file to work on a standard definition display?

The file wont play because the screen size is too big. The best thing to do is resize using Virtual Dub. Load the file into VD and click; video, Filters, Add & then choose the Resize filter. Change the size to something like 640x272 or another suitable size, then choose Bicubic from the Filter mode as this will provide the best quality if you are downsizing. Then just OK everything and click; File, Save avi & save the file. (give a different file name to protect the original in case something goes wrong). You may want to investigate the screen size to make sure you get the best possible conversion.

  4. I followed these instructions, seem to go OK. When I first did it the resulting file was huge - looked to be uncompressed, so I selected "Compression" under the "Video" menu and selected XvID. I left the compression on the default of 271, which resulted in low quality. Any suggestions of a good compression Bitrate to use?
