  1. Over the years I've downloaded and installed many cd/dvd players or I've gotten them packaged with hardware I purchased - and, of course, I just installed them without thinking as to whether I needed them. Here's a list of what I have. Could I get some feedback on which you'd keep and which you'd delete? Any I should add for certain file types? I do quite a bit of DV (camcorder) to DVD work if that helps. Which would you use as the "default" player for DVDs, etc.

    Cliprex DS DVD Player
    Windows Media Player
    ffdshow
InCD (not sure what this one is)
    InterActual Player
    Nero Media Player
    Quicktime
    Real Player

    Thanks for the help.

    Hello,

If you have the harddrive space keep them all. You never know when one might be better than another.

    ABSOLUTE KEEPERS:

    windows media player
    quicktime
    realplayer

    Windows Media Player
Divx Player Alpha (also does Xvid)
    WinDVD Recorder (does AC-3 audio)

Windows Media Player I use all the time.
It is the all-in-one playing software you need nothing else.

Quicktime and Real Player are required for some Internet video but I don't like them and I don't have them!

I personally don't care for Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, or Quicktime Player.

I use Media Player Classic with QuickTime Alternative and Real Alternative (which are actually just CODECS for Media Player Classic). I use PowerDVD 6 to play DVD's.

Just my personal preferences, take them or leave them.

I would just keep ffdshow (For DIVX) and dump all the rest, especially InterActual

I use Windows Media Player Classic, Real Alternative, Quicktime Alternative, VLC player (For odd files), Zoom Player and Power DVD for DVD videos.

I like redwudz lineup except I use BS player or Winamp for AVI with subs.

Yeah definately get rid of Interactual pure crap.

    I don't know what you're talking about.

  8. Again, Media Player Classic isn't on your list, you should add it. Also as has already been said, get rid of quicktime and especially realplayer, and get quick alternative and real alternative.

It depends on what your needs are.

I use bsplayer pro, media player classic for the real and quicktime stuff, and powerdvd for the dvd stuff.

VLC and RealPlayer (if you must) Will take care of every type of media file I know of

  11. Here's what I use:

    * Media Player Classic (for DVD playback... excellent picture, decent control, almost as good as the commercial softwares like PowerDVD etc)

    * BSPlayer (for most AVI movies)

    * Windows Media Player 6.4 (this is what I have as default player for all file types, because it has zero extra features and is a good test player... all the others I use "Send To..." with).

    * Windows Media Player 9/10 (for the rare website that requires it)

    WMP9
    PowerDVD
    WinDVD
    Quicktime Pro
    Real Alternative codec, not RealPlayer

    InCD is not a player
    ffdshow is not a player
    Nero is not a player

It's pretty obvious you're not real experienced,
so you should probably just leave them alone.

  13. Nero is not a player
He said Nero Media Player, although he may have meant Nero ShowTime.

  14. Thanks for all the help folks! I'll ditch Real Player and InterActual.

LS, if Nero Media Player ISN'T a player, then what is it? The "MEDIA PLAYER" part may have thrown me off due to my "lack of experience". What does your vast experience tell you about Nero Media Player?
