    Hi all!
Today, I went to Futureshop and I wanted to purchased the Philips DVP642. To my horror, I was informed that they were out of stock. Not only that, but it seems pretty much every Futureshop is out of stock. I checked their website online and it says out of stock too.

    Ouch. That hurts.

Time for Plan B : Heeeeeeeelp!

Anyone can point me where to purchase one of that player either in Canada or from an online store in the States that will ship to Canada.

    Thanks!

PS. I want this unit as a second player. My main player is quite good, but there are a few divx I'd prefer to be able to view directly without having to re-encode them... U know what I mean. Cheers!

I got mine from RadioShack online (the shipping was free with Puralotor!) but you can also try their retails stores, I think Best Buy, Walmart and Zellers them also.

He, I know what you mean, it's also my "second" player, only for DivX sutff, I use my Panasonic for regualr vidoe DVDs but I seem to be using my Philips alot more theses days

Pretty sure you can get them where matthewmalay mentions, and here they are at Radio Shack.

Well, after multiple phone calls, I can confirm that the player is also backorder at Radio Shack - even though some stores show they have 1 in stock on the website. Apparently, it's a mistake in their inventory.

One store I called to, the guy was laughing out loud. I was the 8th person calling today and he gets calls everyday for this unit!!!

    LOL!

    damn.

  8. Got mine today at Radio Shack. But I got the last one. Just phone the different shops and get them to search for stock at other loctions. I know that there are 15 at Future Shop in Whitby. Good luck.

Still had no luck here. It seems to me this unit is out of stock everywhere in Montreal.

If anyone knows a place where they still have some, it'd be cool.

    Cheers!

Oups! Forgot to say: I'm in Montreal city, Canada.

Well, I finally found two units.

Last week at Radio Shack two blocks from my home. I walked in and asked, and they had one left in stock. Actually, it was a repack- someone brought it back to the store for some reason. I took it in and the player works like a charm. No problem at all! It performs exactly like everyone said it would.

Yesterday I walked in another Radio Shack downtown and asked if they had one. They said they had one left. Not a repack this one, brand new they said. I bought it for a friend of mine.

So far, I've played about 10 DIVX/XVID movies on it. I'm impressed with the AC3 sound on my surround sound system! The image quality varies depending on the source. I prefer the files encoded on two 700MB avi's instead of just one... Better image quality. But still, even a movie on one 700MB avi file looks quite impressive!

Now I can watch Battle Royale! Yay!

    Cheers!
