    I've been told that some DVD players will not recognize an MP2 audio stream as a valid DVD audio stream. Are a "lot" of players like that ... or is it just a fringe minority of players that are picky about such things?

    I assume you mean MPEG-1, Layer 2? I believe it's a very small number that won't work with that format, in fact I don't know of any. That audio format is in the PAL spec, just not the NTSC.
