Anyone else running into problems with the optical output on this piece, ESPECIALLY when watching DIVX/XVID??? Mine is DAMN noisy/static-ish when using the optical into my Denon.

use the coaxial output then, I don't have any problem with the coaxial output. I reckon coaxial always sound better than optical anyway.
Probably your receiver is sucky, I am using optical out on a harmon kardon and it sounds awsome

What is your audio Output setting? On the DVD player.
Depends on what type of sound you listen to. Listening to classical music DVD, I find optical a bit harsh, but the dynamics of optical is better, so the explosion sound is more dynamic with optical output. Personally, I couldn't care less how loud the explosion sound on my system.Probably your receiver is sucky, I am using optical out on a harmon kardon and it sounds awsome
So you reckon Harmon Kardon is the best? I'm using Krell, have you even heard of that brand yet?
The 642 is of course just a second DVD player, as it nowhere fits into high end system. But then, I don't think there is yet a high end DVD that plays DIVX.
