I have a large libary of DVD backups on my computer but they take up a vast amount of space as they are in .vob and .ifo files. I sometimes need to put them back into DVD format to burn them so I can watch them on a seperate DVD player. So I was wondering if there was any type of relatively small file that I could convert them to which would keep the chapter info and if possible keep the menu so that I could put it back in when authoring the DVD. If there is a format which would work best in this situation could someone also recommend a program to convert it although I know it my be down to personal preference.
Thank you

Hello,
Dvdr's are cheap - just back them up like data (disc copy ).
Otherwise if you want to you'd have to convert them to divx to save space per cd or dvd but you'd lose all the functionality and quality of the original (or shrunk) dvd.
Just buy a 50/100 pack of dvdrs and make normal copies of the real dvd. That will save you aggrevation and preserve the original quality of the backup.

Should soon be possible to use DvdMenuXtractor to rip the menu's then mkvmerge to convert them to Matroska files and haali's splitter for playback.
Only other format that I can think of that supports menu's, etc. is mp4.
Really not worth the hassle to convert to either though just to convert back to DVD. -
where is the official download page for DVDMenuXtractor's Windows binaries?
I found an a release of DVDMenuXtractor somewhere, I fed it a DVD dir and after a couple of minutes I got this output:

Thanks for digging up a thread over 6 years old, lovelove. I'm sure you made a lot of friends here with that post.

You are welcome. I don't see the problem. There is no need to start hundreds of threads for the same issue. That's what the search function is for. People always complain that forum posters don't use it before starting a new thread. I do. Please don't post off topic.
