  1. I own a Apex AD-660 dvd player and apex dvd players in general are very versatile with the formats they can play. However, I've noticed a lot of players can play mpeg 1 files in their original form, without having to be in VCD format. Not sure about mpeg2 as well though. I know also a lot of dvd players play mp3s.

    I have two questions.

    1. How do you find out if a dvd player can playback these common formats. Like if I were to just burn a data cd of mpeg files or avi files. How do I go about figuring out if this feature is supported.

    2. I would really like to perhaps purchase a dvd player that plays .avi formats as well as mpeg formats. Any suggestions?

    Thank you

Heres a good player and also at a Low price Philips DVP642 , it plays Avi , Xvid , VCD , Divx, Almost everything you put to it. Just look over in the DVD section there are many players and reviews.

I also have the 642...no complaints so far.

The only way to find out for sure if yours will play them or not is to experiment. Burn a few files onto a disc and try to play it.

  4. Use the DVD Player search function at this site. MPEGISO (on CD) and DVD MPEGISO (on DVD) is the feature that indicates the ability to play "raw" MPEG files on data disks. Divx/Xvid/MPEG-4 is the ability to play AVI (MPEG 4 formats).

  5. sorry, I don't understand the dvd-mpeg1/2 iso thing. what is that exactly for? My apex 660 is only mpeg 1/2 but no dvd thing. but it still plays raw mpegs files from dvd-r's.

Mpegiso means an mpeg burned as a data disk. iso-cd means data cd and iso-dvd means a data dvd.
