I would like to know what are some of the fastest DVD-rom's available. I am mainly interested in extraction speeds from CD/DVD's . Any links to reviews or benchmark results would be most helpful.
Thanks!

The top dvd-rom read speed is 16x.
There are lots of models available.
I realize the fastest DVD-ROM speed is 16X. What I am interested in is audio and DVD extraction speed. My NEC 3500 does a great job with burn speed but is not really all that good with fast extraction speeds.
I thought we were talking about DVD-ROMs here, not DVD writers? (You're talking about burning)
I have found the LiteOn DVD-ROMs with flashed firmware to be the best for ripping. My drives have been know to peak at somewhere between 15X and 15.5X when ripping DVDRs.
If in doubt, Google it.
Thanks Jim! Finally a good answer. Yes, I said my DVD burner is not very good with fast extraction therefor I was looking for a DVD-ROM drive to do the ripping part of the process. My only concern was that I choose one that had very fast ripping speeds because from what I understand DVD burners are not very good at this.
A lot of burners are locked at 2X. A lot of DVD-ROMs are locked to a certain degree also - however flashed firmwares can unlock the ripping speeds and make them region-free as well. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php has a pretty comprehensive list of firmwares for many different drives, so it might be worth checking out.
If in doubt, Google it.
