Is it any cheaper than an OEM WD of the same size and a decent enclosure? Also, what's the warranty on Externals?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Will also look at that ... I know Pyro's exclosures run about $69.00 and a WD / Maxtor 160 runs around $69-$89 ... sale price at CC this week is about $129.00 (after rebates) for this model ... so I think a tad better than piece mealing it.

Still trying to find warrantee info
EDIT: 1 year on exernals .....

I have a 120GB external WD, not exactly the same case but it's plastic (no fan) and it doesn't get that hot. It gets warm after awhile but not really hot unless you leave in on for hours and hours. I am turned off by the cases on these external drives because you can't open them, seems like they are glued together. Better off buying an internal drive and your own enclosure. I use a Bytecc ME-740U2F aluminum case for another drive and it works great for about ~$40.

Installed last nite... not bad... built in two port USB Hub and Fwire support.

So drive is running off Fwire and I also have an additional 2 USB Ports... one in front of the drive which is nice for flash drives, etc ... xfered some family vids and it took about 12 min for 5 gigs worth... not bad on 1394. Didn't seem warm at all as others have mentioned.

    Q. I left it a FAT32 for now. Aside from the 2 gig file limit and built-in securty what other advantages is there with NTFS?

    Cheers Tim
