I did some investigation into why Vegas and main concept encoder will not take some DiVX and XViD files if encoded in certain versions of those codecs ... or you just get a green screen ...
I found that if you change the 4CC codes in the AVI file header to :
Description code - DiVX3
FourCC code used - DiVX
for both XViD and DiVX ..
I had no problem importing and viewing the files in Vegas ...
This should be confirmed by someone else though for main concept encoder as i dont have it installed on this system....
Vegas does not always recognize the field order of a mpeg4 file (DiVX, WMV, XViD) -- vegas is not the only program that has this problem .....

Ok, well still Having Problems ,the best I could get was a Green Screen.
I was reading some post on the thread
www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1160877#1160877
And I think it may have to do with main concept encoder , I un-installed Xvid even Divx still cant get it. -
try this --set both values to DIVX, even if the video is XviD and use the 4CC changer found in the tools section ..

Well now , I have a Black Screen, Even just trying to play the File. There must be somthing on my Pc that is Jumping on it,I also Tried my other PC but only have a trial Version Installed on that one.

some other people confirmed it working on the vegas forum - so i know i am not totally blowing smoke --
but there is for sure some sort of inter-action - that is a pain ...
in your vegas- you should have divx listed under custom avi outputs ... if you dont have it listed it will never work ..
you know you can reg codecs and dlls to vegas by droping them (the dll 's and ax files) on the main vegas editing window dont you ? (doenst always work- but cool when it does)"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Ok well, I dont see Divx,But I do have it installed, The stripped down codecs,That is in the tools section. What do you suggest I install?

damm if i know -- i got the pro version installed .. if it dont show up in vegas in custom file output (mov or avi) , its not going to play it is a fair bet ...

I'm having the same problem now.. Before I reformatted my hard drive , I was able to drop xvids and divx's onto the timeline without a problem. Now when I click on the file it says something like "attributes cannot be determined" and it just shows black.
I read the topic, but I"m not sure of what the fix is? I know it CAN work because it USED to...

I got the solution, get that 4CC changer thing and open your avi file with it and change both fields to DIVX and it will open fine in vegas again
