My friend just purchased a 8x 50 pack of Verbatim DVD+R from Sams Club. When I put them in, Dvd Decrypter said "MCC-003-00". Are these still good? I mean MCC is very good media id?

I believe I read that Verbatim MCC media made in taiwan is manufactured by CMC, using Mitsubishi Chem. Corp. technology and dyes.

The ones marked "Made in Singapore" are manufactured by Mitsubishi.

This is it. This is what all my information has shown.
TDK, MCC and CMC all made in CMC plant.
But each media uses it's own respective chemicals/processes.

PRODISC may use MCC codes, but it's still PRODISC media.
Not made at a MCC/CMC plant.

This can all get confusing, I know.
Plus a lot of it depends on the validity of the often-scarce information.

How come I only get speeds of 4x,6x,8x, and 12x on the media? It says 1x-8x on the spindle. It says those speeds 4,6,8,and 12 are supported on dvd decrypter.

I have 1.18 on my Pioneer 108. So 1x is longer supported anymore? I use Maxell which is TYG01 and has speeds of 1x 2x, and 4x. Why on 8x don't they support 1x or 2x anymore? Lordsmurf what media do you recommend for PS2 backups? Every media is different, right? Some can burn at 1x and others cant? Or what speed do you recommend burning PS2 backups? Would 4x be ok? I can only get 4x,6x,8x,10x, and 12x on the 8x Verbatim DVD+R.

Lordsmurf, there is Verbatim/Mitsubishi branded MCC media made by Prodisc. I have some Datalifeplus 8x +R, 4x -R and Digitial Movie 4x +R discs made by Prodisc (I know they're made by Prodisc by the serial number etched in the clear plastic hub area).

My guess is that the firmware can only contain so many specific writing strategies and there was no room for 1x or 2x writing strategies for 8x or faster media. I could be wrong. I understand the NEC 3500 doesn't support 1x writing on any media at all. At least with the Pioneer if you bought 4x or slower media you could attain it.

Hmm... first I've heard of it.
This stuff gets more complex as the days go by.
