Hi,
I am using a Pentium 4 2.0ghz with 512 megs of ram PC running XP SP2. I have resently installed a 200Gig Western Digital hard disk, DVD burner from Pioneer and a combo USB Firewire card from Zonet(Zonet USB / Firewire ZUC2400.
All works well except the DV capture with the firewire connection. It does recognize the Sony Mini DV.
Whether I am using the Ulead Visual Studio V8.0SE or Movie Factory Suite V3.5 or ImageMixer V1.5 for Sony, I get the same result. After 2to 4 frames the video capture software freezes and popping sound is head from the PC's speakers.
When I use DVIO, WinDV, or MovieMaker more video is captured than the above software but still get many frames dropped.
Drivers used: VIA OHCI 1394 IEEE Compliant Host
Hard Drives First hard drive is 60 Gig FAT32 and the second one is 200GIG NTFS. I direct all video capture to the second one.
Video Camera: Sony Mini DV DCR-TRV33.
What can be causing these problems?
Please advise on possible items that I should look into.
Regards,
Joe

Hi,
Was just wondering? No one seems to have ever had this problem.
Have tryed a new firwire and the same problems occur.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe
try moving the firewire card to a new pci slot - or disabling your audio in your bios - or getting a better quality firewire card (like an ads)

Also, make sure no other processes are running in the background - i.e. virus protection, screen savers, other programs.
End them through taskmanager, except explorer of course. You can also use a freeware called EndItAll2 to stop many of the processes.
Thanks BJ_M and Fairhope.
I will try the card swap and then the ending of most processes.
I will let you know the results.
Thanks,
Joe
Hi BJ_M,
Thanks for your help.
Just swapping the pci slot did the trick.
It know works without dropping any frames and without shutting down any other background applications.
Thanks again,
Joe
Also it is best to capture to a separate partition, better yet separate drive and IDE channel from the Windows OS.
Place all scratch fles and capture buffers on this separate drive for best results.
