  1. I just bought a Pionner DVR-108D DL burner and I am a little bit confused about the layer break issue while burning DL media with Nero.
My question is the following: if I use DVD Shrink 3.2 to backup a DVD - movie only that doesn't fits into a single layer DVD - and I don't select the REMOVE LAYER BREAK option, if I lately burn it with Nero 6.6.0.3 will I experience problems when playing it on my standalone DVD - Sony DVP-NS700V? I read somewhere that Nero doesn't put the LAYER BREAK information on the burned disc, causing playback problems on some DVD standalone players. So I was guessing if DVD Shrink was not removing the BREAK LAYER information, this would be burned by Nero on the DL media. Anyone has experience on this so far? Thanks!!!

I just finished reading a bunch of stuff on this at doom9. DVDShrink has the checkbox option to remove the layer break. Nero always inserts a new layer break. If you don't watch your options, you end up with 2 layer breaks!

Seems the easiest way to deal with this (other than DVDDecrypter ) is to remove the layer break with DVDShrink, and burn with Decrypter (or Nero if you must).

    dvddecrypter-ISO read,ISO write.
it puts the layer break at the same position as the original,.i cant understand why nero would be the DL burning programme of choice,as decrypter is free, and does a superior job.
done 14 burns now,and the 3 i had that didnt work were done with nero6,but decrpyer has worked in all players for me,inc. a ps2 thats more than dodgy.
if the stuff you have is previously converted for a single layer, and you want to combine 2 into 1,then you could author with dvd lab pro, with menus, etc, and burn in nero if you wanted,or copytodvd.

  4. Question:

    1. But where is Nero putting the layer break?
    2. How can I control that?
    3. How do I burn a DVD Shrink shrink backup with Decrypter? Is Decrypter putting the layer break? How can I control that?

    One last comment:

DVD Decrypter is the easiest way to deal with this. I agree. I already made a DL backup using it, but had no chance to play it on my standalone DVD player to check it. From what I have read so far, probably it will work fine.

    You can't.

I don't use it. Someone else will be along to tell you shortly..

Is Decrypter putting the layer break? How can I control that?
Yes. ISO Write Mode tab. Select Calculate or User Specified.
