  1. My wife died in October and the funeral and grave side service was recorded, I have converted the dv to dvd with menus, when I play it back on the computer it looks great, and plays back in wide screen, but when it is played on a set top player it plays in full screen.

is there anyway to force the player to play in widescreen or am I doing something wrong when I am authoring the dvd?

By "full screen on the TV" do you mean the sides are being chopped off or are you seeing the picture horizontally squashed?

The DVD Player set up menu should have a section on how a disc is displayed. The choices are usually

Pan & Scan (or P&S, Fullscreen)
    Matted Letterbox ( or Letterbox)
    Widescreen (or 16:9)

As you have a widescreen TV, it should be set to widescreen. If the DVD is marked as widescreen, it will be displayed as such.

Computers can be more forgiving of poorly authored discs. I have studio discs that exhibit this same behaviour becuase they have not be properly authored as 16:9 (thanks, Paramount)

  5. I am assuming it is wide screen, the sides are chopped off on the regular tv, I used my camera today and checked to see if it was set to a "wide screen" effect and the 16:9 is turned off.

I haven't tried yet to force the player to play the dvd as a wide screen, but, I am giving these dvd's to family and don't want to have to explain to everyone how to make it work to look right..

    any suggestions

  6. Well if you really wanted to force it you could change the IFO files to 16:9 amd Auto Letter box. You would need to use IFOEDIT for this.

Sorry to hear about your wife.
