  1. Hi all,

Another newbie question here. I like to put labels on my DVDs (I have the printout kind that stick on). I also notice that there are printers that can print directly onto the discs.

Do these labels or printing interfere with the DVD / CD performance? I assume that the optics that read and write to the DVD / CD are on the bottom and stuff on the top should not be an issue?

Is there a FAQ on the best way to do this. After spending all the time to capture, edit, encode, author, and burn; I'd hate to have something as simple as a lable mess me up.

First, read --> this, then decide for yourself. Printables would be better IMO, but I do use labels on ones that won't be played much.

From my personal experience, full face sticky dvd labels will interfere with playback. (usually toward the end of the movie) I'm sure it's the labels because you can just peel the label off and it will play fine. I use the Epson R200 to print directly on printable dvds now and am getting great/playable results.

  4. Okay,

It looks like a mixed bag. The thread you referred me to was great. There are enough people here having issues that there must be something to it.

I was planning on getting a photo ink jet printer soon anyways. So it looks like the safest bet is to get one that can print right on the DVD.

    Thanks,

    Glenn
