I'm trying to author with Nero Vision Express 3. My screen resolution is 640x480. My monitor is a piece of crap and I lose horizontal hold when I try to up the size so I'm stuck with this. My problem is I can't see the buttons at the bottom of the chapters screen (like the next button). Does anyone know how I can navigate using the keyboard instead of mouse to get to it? I tried tab and alt+tab but it didn't seem to work and I can't see what it's doing. (Yes, I know you're cracking up laughing and that's OK.)

Tried it but it don't seem to do anything. I need someone who has the program to try it and tell me how many tabs I need to click over (and if it can work at all.)

What is wrong with your mouse?

Have you tried using the arrow keys?

Try dragging the bottom taskbar down so it disappears and gives you a bit more room.

moved the taskbar to the side, moved the window as high as it could go. could only barely see the numbers saying free disc space. space occupied bar completely hidden.

I got a pretty nice used Dell 17" monitor at Salvation Army (or was it Goodwill?) for $30. I had to supply a power cord. (I used a power cord from an old external HD that I no longer use). If it's in your budget, it may save you some aggravation. Best of luck!

A lot of video applications programs like DVD Authoring software or Video Editing Software etc. needs a resolution of 1024x768 ... else you are out-of-luck!

You sure it's the monitor ? I would've thought it'd be more likely to be the video card.

As I've said, I don't use NVE, and I know this doesn't really answer the question you're asking per se, but is a 2nd-hand video card or monitor out of the question ?

I don't know how you manage with 640 X 480 in this day and age, and you shouldn't have to. For starters, you wouldn't meet the minimum requirements for quite a few programs (NVE is obviously one of them). Do yourself a favor and lose that hardware that is holding you back. It'll save you asking what the keyboard shortcuts are
    If in doubt, Google it.

BEST BUY just had a special on a flat screen 17" MAG model PC monitor. It was $69.99

Monitors are cheap but it sounds like the computer's graphic card could be part of the problem if not the whole problem.

I recently got a new computer but I was able to do just about anything video related on a P3 650Mhz computer with 256MB RAM running WinXP.

I did have a PCI ATI Radeon 7500 card though as my video card and a decent monitor. In short doing 1024x768 was not a problem with my hardware.

My point is you don't need a screaming fast computer but it does sound like your computer might be just a bit too slow.

  13. Try setting up a 800x600 or 1024x768 virtual desktop with a 640x480 screen size. Then you can move the window around via the mouse.

anzimike: wow that's cheap, but I'm in Toronto

junkmalle: Um, I don't think it can handle a virtual pc, it can barely handle the physical pc, but nice suggestion.

jimmalenko: You hit the nail on the head. It has to be the video card since I remember this monitor would go up to 1024x768 back when I had a P1.

There's no point in my replacing it now because my computer is SHIT. It constantly overheats, has bad ram, and runs on Win98. It behaves like it's posessed and I have to say 10 hail mary's every time I turn it on. I have sworn an oath to God that when I can afford a new system I am taking this to the 25th floor roof of my building and chucking it off. Then I'm collecting all the pieces on the ground and chucking them into a bonfire. I'll invite all my neighbors and we'll dance and roast marshmellows and then stomp on the burnt pieces.

In the meantime, it does the work I give it between bouts of PMS. So that's why I was looking for keyboard shortcuts. But don't worry about it anymore, I gave up on Nerovision already. At least VCDEasy doesn't place the important stuff at the bottom of the screen.

(Yes, it's so funny I could cry.)

Doesnt sound like your video card is the problem, might be the refresh rate is too high for 1024x768 for the monitor, try setting it to that resolution with 60hz for refresh rate.

And where exactly do I specify the 60hz setting? Can you tell me how to get there? I'll try anything once.

Goto control panel/display/settings/advanced and look under adapter and see if you can adjust the monitor refresh rate there.

Nope. The only thing it will let me do there is change drivers. (Tried upgrading them before but still have same result.)

Try and find drivers for your monitor and then you should be able to see what refresh rates you can change and also the available resoltions.Did you not see a window where it says optimal settings in the adapter section?

Not a virtual PC! Windows can run a desktop that's larger than the monitor can display. When it does this your monitor becomes a 640x480 window onto the larger desktop. The window automatically scrolls as you move the mouse near the edge of the monitor.

Why don't you borrow a monitor and see if your card will do 1024 * 768. If so, you should be able to buy a second hand monitor for a small outlay. 15inch will do 1024 * 768, but 17inch is recommended.
    Have a nice Day

  22. This sounds more like a driver related problem.Find out what video card you have and then go on line and get win98 compatable drivers, bet that solves your problem.640 480 is win98 defalt settings if you don't have the right drivers this is what 98 will set the moniter to and you can't change it.
