MJPEG(.avi) conversion to .avi for Premiere 6.5 editing

Need help converting to Premiere 6.5 editable file!!!!!

I have a MJPEG file (created by a digital camera) that was sent to me that I would like to incorporate into my Premiere 6.5 project. When I try to import the file I get an error message stating that it does not recognize the format. The only info that I could get from the Adobe forum is that Premiere will not edit MJPEG files. Im hoping that someone here can recommend a program that will convert the MJPEG file to something that will work with Premiere 6.5.

My sister who just had her baby and sent me the file will really appreciate your help!!!!

What digital camera shoots MJPEG?

Do you mean MicroMV from Sony's proprietary digital Video Cameras.(the real small ones)

If it's PICVideos Mjpeg, I think you need to pay for the decompressor, but not sure.

The file was created with a canon powershot s50 or canon pc1048. When I open it with QuickTime and ask for the movie info it says that the format is "MotionJPEG OpenDML" which I interpreted at MJPEG...... The rest of the info is: Mono. 11.024 kHz, 8 bits, 15 FPS. Do you still think that I need a "decompressor"? If so, do you know where to get one?

Premiere will not even let me load it. It gives me an error message that it is an invalid format. I confirmed on the Adobe web site that Premiere 6.5 will not take MPEG or MJPEG. I need to convert it. (I know that the movies are not corrupt b/c they work on all of my viewers...)

Adobe Premiere ABSOLUTELY will read MJPEG and MPEG ... IF you have the proper codecs/software installed that does it.

I found a spec sheet that says it is a MJPeg stream. It probably requires custom software or a custom codec. Still looking ....

I think it is time for you to call Canon support.

PS. Premiere will work MJpeg if it has the right codecs.

I have all the latest downloads for Premiere 6.5 from the Adobe website (Im trying to stay away from purchasing Pro...) So if there are some codecs some other place that would let me read the file that would be a better solution than trying to convert it!!!! So does anyone know where I can find these codecs?????

PS. It is a still camera that takes short video clips. I have no problems with DV files.

The only solution to this one is from Canon. Premiere Pro won't help.

My DC-30 Plus card used MJPEG in Premiere but the codecs were supplied by Pinnacle Systems the card manufacturer.

The Canon manual says the videos can be edited in the camera. Other than that, they mention Quicktime once. Maybe they supplied something on a CD.

Do you have an MJPEG codec on your system? Morgan or PICvideo? Get one.

Same for MPEG-2. I have LSX.

I have a canon s-60 w/ a few 'videos' that I took w/ it when I didn't have my camcorder w/ me (it was a video emergency).

these open fine for me in Vegas on XP w/ the picvideo mjpeg codec installed (and in fact vegas reports the format as picvideo mjpeg), so it may only be a codec issue.

however, at 320x240 15fps, you won't end up with anything to win any awards, however, a little trimming in an editor and if you are trying to send to someone on the internet, etc. may work ok...

The Canon solution is to use Quicktime (with provided drivers) for playback. Clicking the file won't play it, WMP won't play it.

Editing is done with a program called Canon ZoomBrowser EX

zoom browser EX is like a library function but is not an editor, at least to my knowledge, and I use it for all my canon pics...but, now that you mention it, the camera ships w/ arcsoft video impression, which canon says is for editing videos..I've never used the s/w, but that's its intent - you may be albe to download it from the canon site...

I had the same problem with my Canon powershot S50 and the solution was importing the MJPEG files into Ulead GIF animator at the resolution of 320 x 240. Ulead GIF animator easily accepts this kind of files and can export them as AVI video files. Then import the avi files in Premiere 6.5 and edit them.
Pay attention that these kind of MJPEG files have "square Pixels" and you have to change them in the right pixel aspect ratio (1,067) before exporting as avi files.
