TV Output from laptop?

Hello,

I have a unusual problem and wondered if anyone could help...

I have this old Dell Latitude laptop which has built in S-VHS output...so I can in fact connect my laptop to the TV without a problem...

However, I see that the quality of the DVD playback output does not compare to the output of regular DVD players...and that is partly because the laptop is outputting the *overall* PC screen output directly and NOT outputting the specific 720x480 output window of the Power DVD player...so there is some amount of scaling that is happening which causes the output to drop...Now please bear in mind, I can always maximize the playback window to full screen mode, but even then, the window is scaled to teh highest resolution of my screen rather that optimized for TV...

Hope I am putting my problem down in words...

Anyhow, is there an application which allows one to specifically pick the specific output from a specific window to the TV output???

if not, can anyone simply recommend good USB or PCMCIA video cards that I can attach to my laptop which will give comparable output that matches my cheapest possible player (I am trying to play DivX and XVid movies, hence the dilemma)...

I think there is a programme called Descaler that might work for your needs.

Check your advanced display settings for something like Theater Mode, DVD Max, or somesuch. Most cards with TV out have such a setting that lets you send just the DVD or AVI video to the TV output.

This is called s-video, not s-vhs. S-VHS is a tape/video format. S-video is a wire/output type.

Anyway, the simple answer is: no. Unfortunately it does not always work that way. You're confined by the abilities of the hardware. Look around control panels as suggested by others.
