u need to get special printable dvd-r's
    http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/mercha...ory_Code=DVPTY
and a special printer such as the r200
    http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/mercha...tegory_Code=CP
    to print on them.
there are a few issues of ink smearing and some people use spray for protecting the printed surfae - it was discussed here just a couple of days ago...
With all due respect... and there is respect...

To do this, you need to buy soft dvds.

Ok let's be serious - Epson R200/R300 or Canon I865-965 will do a terrific job.

Ink is not waterproof. So you cannot touch the dvd with wet fingers or drop water on it.
If you normally take the disks the way it must be done and If you do not have children, you can skip the spray step.

Krylon sir. Using clear, or some prefer crystal clear etc...thin layer, very thin. gotta have a way to do it though..i.e. a way to prevent the krylon from getting on the underside or else coaster.

do a search for "Krylon" and you should be set.

    YES!

You need a printer that feeds the disk straight through without bending it and has enough clearance for the thick CD/DVD disk plus a tray it sits in to feed through the printer and the print head not hit it.
Before the R200 epson came out I modded a Lexmark Z25 into a disk printer using the Village Idiots guide. Now I also own a R200.
That Lexmark was a normal inkjet printer cut and filed here and there for it to work.
Yes the ink will come back off the normal disks! Just for fun I tried a regular disk and also for testing the alignment of the disk tray I used regular disks. The ink dries to a powder you can smear or wipe back off with a paper towel.

You have to buy inkjet printable disks, regular disks won't take the ink. Printables are more expensive but not that much more, probably cheaper than buying disks and seperate labels. My TY CDs only cost around 35cents US along time ago, probably less now.

Under normal use I never needed to spray a disk to seal it and I have not had any problem ink related. 13yr old and her friends, wife and I all handling disks and all are still fine.

Epson R200 and printable disks are all you really need, there are other printers also that print disks.

I uploaded a few samples of disks I printed. Not sealed, the defects like banding was caused by the scanner, and one cd I had finger prints on the scanner. These are often used disks.
