  1. Hello,
I observe some strange effect on my new DVD-recorder Pioneer DVR-520H. If there are areas in the TV picture with strong color then the color component is shifted to the right from the BW component. I have a 52" TV and this shift goes sometimes up to 1cm. This is really annoying. I tried different signal sources: tuner, L1, DV and also tried to select different TV output: composit, RGB, SVideo - all the same. The menus colors are always OK and never shifted, same for JPG pictures - only video makes that problem(motion and paused frames).
Does anybody experienced such problem? I don't have any other device to compare so I don't know if this is a problem of my item or the model or the general problem of dvd-recorders.
    Best regards
    Andrzej

So it doesn't matter if it's passing through the signal from the tuner or other input or if it is playing from the hard drive or DVD player and it doesn't matter how you've connected it to the TV. Is there anything near the DVR or the TV that could be causing magnetic interference?

I haven't noticed this with my 32" XBR digital TV and my DVR-510, but maybe my picture is too small to notice. I'd contact Pioneer or your dealer about replacing the unit.

  3. If I play a DVD from somewhere else then it is correct. Only signals which are worked out by my unit (all kind) are wrong. And another test: I have a VCR conected to my 520 and when I switch 520 off then the scart signal is passed through and it is OK. But when I switch 520 on then it modifies the VCR signal and it becomes wrong.
But if you don't notice such problem with your device then my one must be wrong anyway.

I think your unit has a defect because this would be unacceptable to more than just yourself. If you bought from a local retailer you could ask them to demo their shelf model to examine if it is the same or different. Hopefully you got this from an authorized Pioneer reseller because otherwise Pioneer provides no warranty (although your seller may have its own warranty or replacement guarantee).

  5. Thanks, I will try to check and eventually replace the unit.
