Visited my brother over the weekend. He just bought a Sony Video cam. He connected it to his PC via USB link. The bundle software only support capture video in VCD and direct burn to CDR.

Is there any software that he can use to capture the video clip in DV format using USB link ?

If not, any recommendation on the firewire card that support Sony's iLink.

    Thanks.

    Hi pchan,

Any firewire card will do the job - even the cheap ones. Firewire is a universal standard and isn't limited to one brand.

As for software, WinDV, AVI_IO, DVIO and Scenalyzer Live are regularly recommended in these forums.

Firewire is commonly recommended over USB2.0 for DV transfer. For some reason, there are sometimes problems via USB2.0 but I've never known or heard of problems with firewire.

Sony cameras come only with USB cable. Get an 1394 cable (and 1394 card if not already installed).

Just any $10 card will be good. Get those with 3 or 4 connectors. One day you will need more than just 2

    Thanks for the replies.

It looks like firewire is THE option.
