I am about to buy a nec HT1100 projector and it has inbuilt hdcp. this is part of the fine print on the specifications
"There maybe cases which content protected with HDCP will not be displayed due to decisions or the intention of the HDCP community, (Digital Content Protection, LLC). "

can anyone please tell me if that will be a problem playing back ups on the projector??

    thanks

It will not. There is nothing to differentiate backups from home movies on DVD. If it won't play your home movies, you have a valid reason to return it.

You should look at an Infocus projector before you make your decision though. People seem to like them.

On another point, that is a horrible plan to protect content. It makes me angry just reading it. I wouldn't buy one just out of spite.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

Thanks deadsierra, I took in a home movie dvd as well as a back up and tried them out and they worked fine. I then found out that the HDCP only works through the DVI input plug and is compatable with other HDCP input sources, so if it plays on your player it will play through the projector through the DVI input, anyway I am running it through s video and component and HDCP does not have any effect through those inputs. Why would they bother with HDCP? I dont know they are trying to acheive with it?

Also I looked at the infocus 5700 and its not as sharp or bright as nec ht1100, I have spent a lot of time choosing a projector after wanting one for many years, now I have got it and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
