  1. I noticed that Direct X 9.0c update is now available thru windows update. If I am not a gamer, can you think of a reason I need to update? I am currently running 9.0b with no problems. Does anyone know what has been "updated"?
If it works, don't fix it.

Mostly problems with SP2 for WinXP (which you appear not to be running - thus no reason to get it).

What I read it's for newer videocards such as Radeon 9800 and nVidia 6800,it supports shading:

Got DX9c with Win XP SP2, have Geforce 6800, no problems to report as of yet with Doom 3 or Unreal Tourney 2004, or any of my older games.

The only cards that can actually make use of DirectX 9.0c shaders are nVidia's Geforce 6xxx series GPUs. ATI dropped the ball on that one...
Your base? Well, they belong to me now...
