Ive bene looking through lots of sites and reviews, but i dont see any real stand out recorders out there. now what im looking for is somehting in the sub 200 range, but anything around 300 ill consider. having a hd on it would be nice, but not a neccesity. i just want something with good quality recordings and decent editing abilities. a programming guide is somehting ill want too. any suggestions are welcome. also, i will be using this for archiving some of my vhs tapes and ill be running the video from a satellite reciever to the recorder. are thier any quality recorders in my price range? thanks.

Not with a HD....
btw, its weird but you can search for just that in the dvd writers section on left column. Thats where they put dvd recorders too.
Good luck in the sub 200 range, I wouldn't trust anything that cheap myself.
yes im aware of the search function, and ive been through that, but views and opinions are so varied.....so i thought id post for something more concrete.
so anything in the 200-300 rang eis out of the question then?
JVC DR-M10 can be purchased a eCost.com for less than $300 including the shipping. Probably the best PQ of the DVD recorders available on the market right now and records standard DVD-Video format MPEG2 (VOB files) using -RW's. No HD, though. Edit, author and burn the finished -R with your computer.
Supposedly the iLO at Walmart is a LiteOn 5001 and is $150. If that's all true, it's worth more investigation.
The JVC DR-M10 is the best one right now. Nice machine.Answers to Common Video Questions:

hmm ok, i have read good things about the jvc model so ill look at that one. unfortunately editing on a pc wont be possible, becuase the person that will be using this doesnt have a pc that i owuld usggest doiing such work on lol, so an all in one solution is a better idea.
i guess getting one with a hd is just too much to aks for right now.
but if you compared that jvc model with a vcr, it would do everything that a vcr could do, and thats the main thing thats needed. getting a hd for pausing live tv and such would be nice, but it doesnt seem possible for that price. thanks for the help.
