    When backing up a dvd which audio is better to use ac3 5.1 or dts 5.1? Thanks.

  2. AC5.1 is better for one reason ever DVD play can read AC5.1 if you only have DST some DVD player can not read it. Please read this link

    dts is supposed to be better than ac3, theoretically as it is at a higher bitrate. however, the difference is minimal and on some dvds, you cant even tell the difference. it is best to keep the ac3 track as this is part of the dvd video spec. without an ac3 audio, the disc does not meet the dvd video spec.

    dts also tends to take up more memory than ac3 due to its higher bitrate. if quality of video is your concern, stick with ac3. also, it is wise to note that ac3 is more compatible than dts.
