SATA hard drive & IDE hard drive how to set up?

Does using a SATA hard drive really make a difference compared to a IDE hard drive when it comes to doing video editing? My asus p4p800s mobo has SATA capability. I read the mobo manual but I'm sort of lost as to how to set a SATA hd & a IDE hd up.

Is it better to have the operating system on the SATA hd to use it to boot up the pc & use the IDE hd as a slave drive for capturing? Or have the operating system on the IDE hd and SATA hd as slave drive for capturing?

I would appreciate any comments, tips or advice on this matter. Thanks in advance!

generally speaking, my answer is no. the ATA 100/133 vs SATA 150 is not that big of a difference in real world use. the ratings of 133 and 150 etc are peak/burst through put. you can bench your drives, and obtain a nice graph, and numbers to show you "better" faster" but a good 7500 RPM ATA 133, and a 7500 RPM SATA 150 will be close in performance in most desktops, or workstations. i would use the SATA for data, and ATA for your boot/OS, but thats just me. you should also look at the drive specs too. 7500 RPM w/8m cache will have better numbers than a 7500 RPM w/2m cache.

increase and/or degradations in performance are cumulative. fast RAM+HDD+CPU etc all add up to performance, and just one component can slow it all down to a crawl. advances in PC components/archetecture are for the most part evolutionary. meaning incremental performance over the previous standards. but a SATA 150 compaired to a ATA 33 is pretty impressive
