Trying to get proper playback with ATI card.

To repeat some info from a previous post, I was given an ATI All In Wonder 8500DV card. After installing & connecting everything the TV worked fine. I recorded a clip to the harddrive from the TV & it recorded & played back fine. When I captured a test portion from my VCR it looked & sounded fine while recording but on playback it wasn't so fine. In fact it wouldn't playback correctly. It seems to be stuck on the first couple of frames & just keeps repeating them over & over. I recorded 1 minute of test & when I play it back the playback time is right & the sound plays, but the video portion just sits there & keeps repeating.
The original MMC was 7.7 & Lordsmurf suggested upgrading to 9, which I did. Nothing changed. I set up the recording using Lordsmurfs capture guide "Capturing MPEG with an ATI card". I tried several different settings & nothing helped.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it a commercial tape? That was the same thing I would get when trying to record a commercial tape. You can't record a commercial tape with copy protection without first using external video equipment to remove the copy protection.

The coalman is correct. You must have tried to copy a macromedia protected tape. To solve this try a Sima Video Copy Master, it enhances the video by improving the signal and it removes the macromedia stream. They have a website, just Google "Sima".

Not trying to be smart ass but its macrovision. Macromedia makes the flash plugin for browsers and other flash products.

You guys are really something. You all hit it right on the head. It was macrovision. I'm trying to transfer some old beta tapes to dvd before my old beta deck dies on me & sure enough the first one I tried had macrovision. When I used my little black box to kill the macro it recorded & played back just fine. THANK YOU ALL!
