Step by Step guide for .avi-> vcd/svcd/dvd using ffmpegx?

I've searched for one, and I've tried on my own, and I simply don't get this program. It seems to work for everyone else though, and for the most part, I'm pretty saavy with video and a mac.

Is there a step by step guide at all?

Everytime I try to convert an .avi file, it says it fails at the end of the process. Someone please help

So I get 3 files when I use that proces.

1 mpv
1 mp2
1 mpg

The mpg is only 1 second long. Is there a way to merge the other two files?

How would you merge multiple .avi files?
