  1. Does anyone know what causes this machine to go into the loading mode? Four times now the unit has locked up, no buttons work, then it goes into the loading mode for a minute or two. The last time I had to unplug it to get it out of loading. What is it doing when it says loading?

    Another happy customer....

I'm sorry, but this is starting to happen too often for comfort. I own a JVC M10sl and it did the same thing before it broke down all the way. This doesn't mean it will happen to you but from what I can tell you are doing what most people have done.

Unplug and try again. Good Luck!

There is one thing you can try is to change the media you are using.

  3. I saw this issue with my unit shortly after I got it which was about two months ago. Unfortunately, I don't remember the details of what I thought caused it. I seem to recall that I may have attributed it to a bad disc, but I might be wrong.

Anyway, I have not seen the issue since. Though my usage of the unit for recording is fairly infrequent, I generally power the unit on every day. At this point, I'm not terribly concerned.

  4. Did it again this morning, guess I'll have to take it in for repair. Does the cooling fan ever come on when the power is off? The unit gets very hot when off, but the fan never comes on.

Mine is being repaired as we speak, the tech told me he had to send out to JVC for replacement parts. If you suspect that there is a problem please don't do like I did and wait for your 30 evaluation period to lapse. I did this and I can no longer return it, but the warranty is still in effect.

If you set up the JVC in "power save" mode, it will shut all the way down (and not get warm). It will take longer to start back up, though.

  7. I was having this same problem a while back but it wasn't on a JVC unit. It was on the Sony RDR-GX7. I did not have time to waste so I brought it back for a refund.

how do you put it in "power save" mode?
I've just been using turning the unit on/off with the on/off button.

  9. Press the "Set Up" button on your remote. Navigate to the "Function Set Up" tab and then to "Display Set". You'll see "Power Save" on that screen which will show "On" or "Off".

  10. Also, if I recall correctly, the default for "Power Save" is off.

I'd be interested in knowing what was wrong with yours if possible. I bought it as a store return and the place I got it from sells returned merchandise as is. It still has the warranty, but they won't exchange it.

I will let everyone know what the problem was as soon as I talk to the tech again. I am also curious. This is the story of my life, nothing seems to go as planned. I'll be glad to get it back.

I was wondering if the power save function works much like a timer that shuts down the entire system. Example: Lets say you are recording a show (but not using the program recording list function), and the recording has ended. Will the JVC cut off completely or will it just power down?

  14. How long does it take to power up from power save, and does it go into loading when powered on? I used another unit before the one I have now and the fan used to come on regularly when the unit was off, it never has on the one I have now.
