  1. I have Backed up many movies.....from my collection and I have a wide range of discs both old and new. I have backed up old movies, documentaries, Tv series discs, bargain basement DVD-5's, flipper's, and the latest and greatest stuff out there and I have NEVER seen any use for this directory.

What discs out there actually use it ? What type of media ever used it?

I know its purpose (in therory) but have never seen it used.

It wont kill me if I never actually find out but I am just really curious.

The whole AUDIO_TS (DVD-Audio) concept kinda went the way of Betamax, I believe.

The directory is soley for the DVD-Audio feature of the DVD format. You can find plenty of DVD-Audio titles, but overall the format hasn't taken off much. Hardware support isn't that widespread and SACD seems to be more popular. Still, DVD-Audio is incredible quality.

Alot of people did, or maybe still do, think that you have to have the AUDIO_TS directory on the DVD for compliancy with old players. I guess we can't know for sure, but I think its pretty obvious that this is just a rumor since the majority of commercial DVDs released these days lack the directory. I have seen lots of commercial authoring packages which always output this directory when compiling. I'm sure some studios just released their DVDs with this directory simply because that's how the software spit it out. For a DVD-Video disk, the directory does nothing.
