The dreaded "LOADING" message on JVC DR-M10SL

After using the DR-M10SL for a couple weeks and recording over 20 DVD-R/RWs this morning got the "LOADING" message when trying to start a recording, it happened twice ruining 2 DVD-Rs and had to unplugged from the AC outlet to make it work again.
I'm glad that I purchased this unit with Amex card with their 60 days return policy, if this happens more often I'll get rid of it no matter how good they may be, already got some bad experiences with the DR-MV1S and my trust in JVC's quality is running low right now.

What DVD-RWs do you recommend? As I need to order a bunch (since the +RWs I've been using in my LiteOn 5005 won't work). My JVC unit is on the way, and I want to be ready.

Yeah it's cheap DVD-R media, but been using it for the past 10 recordings w/o problems until this morning. I went back to my previous method of recording on DVD-RW then copying on my computer to DVD-R and so far is working fine.

I had a similar experience and I did a thorough cleaning of the disk and every thing was well again. I had another disk that cleanding didn't help so I formated the disk using my computer. Once I popped it back into the JVC it worked fine.

I've been to Circuit City, Best Buy, Target, Staples, and haven't seen any TDK DVD-RWs. I ended up buying Fuji (made in Singapore) at BB.

I bought 5 pack of Memorex 2x DVD-RW in Wallmart for $12. They made by Ritek.

Amazon got Ritek 4X DVD-RW, 25 for $18.49. Very good price. But will it be compatible with JVC DR-M10S? The manual stated it can only use DVD-RW version 1.1 (1X and 2X) compatible discs.

CompUSA has the TDK -RWs but they're a rip off (naturally); much more expensive than Fry's.

I bought some Memorex -RWs and, like kabanero mentioned, they're made by Ritek. I also bought some Maxell -RWs and they have a TDK media ID.

Using Optodisk 1X DVD-RW for most of my JVC recordings, no problems are all and they could be ripped at 4-6x, also using the cheap Sonic(Longten001) that I use for most of my VHS or TiVo recordings or to give away to friends and family, the Riteks G03/G04 are for DVD convertions or archiving only.

I just downloaded the Fry's/Outpost web page and went to CompUSA for a price match. They charged me 7.99 for 5 TDK 2X DVD-RW in stead of 12.99. Never play this game before. May be time to start doing it.

I totally agree. Japanese never make any DVD drive for years. The LSI Logic chip is made in a Taiwanese foundry. If the 2 most important parts of the machine are not made in Japan, then what is difference who put the machine together? The design, quality control and the after sell service is more important to us than the sticker. My IBM Thinkpad, like most Thinkpad, is made in Mexico with parts from US, Korea, Taiwan and China. But I still think it is a US machine because of its US quality and service.

Are you saying a CompUSA store is willing to price match an online price?

If so, do I have to go to the service desk to get the price match or can the cashier do it?

We have a Fry's store in Seattle area and they are out of stock. I do not know if they will price match if there is no store in town. I just went to the cashier's. No question asked. She just called the manager got a code and that it.

I can't wait for the 15th, that's when mine is scheduled to arrive. I just don't look forward to re-dupping all the tapes I've done so far on my LiteOn 5005.

I think this time around I'm going to dup my DVD-RWs off onto DVD-Rs for later processing, instead of buying a bunch of RWs like I did with the 5005. Now I'm stuck with 60 +RWs that I can't use on my JVC.

I wanted Japanese but got a Chinese made dated May 2004, some people claim they're basically the same, only time will tell and I still got another month on Amex satisfaction warranty.

Speaking of "loading", my M10 can no longer read several un-finished DVD-R discs from a month ago., and reports "Disc error" on the LED panel. I've seen this reported on this forum before.

This is a serious flaw. Really wish this unit could write to DVD+RW !!
