I captured 2 (45 min) VHS tapes, encoding each into a m2v/ac3 pair. all video is present in the AVI files and the m2v files.

I used Tmpg DVD Author to make the vob files. The last 5 minutes or so are missing from the vob (used PowerDVD to play it before burning)

When I made the vobs, DVD Author reported 4171/4344 GB (approx #'s)on the capacity slider bar. Each VHS tape is almost the same length, so I would expect the vob's to be close in size although I did use a lower avg bitrate number for the 2nd tape (6500 vs 7000) because I ws worried about not exceeding the max size.

Where'd my 5 minutes go? Is this a capacity issue?

Well I reencoded the 2nd VHS tape with a smaller bitrate and the resultant output still cuts off at the same point in PowerDvd

    any ideas?

Burn the files to dvdrw and test on your dvd player,i wouldnt trust powerdvd in playing all dvd files properly,if it still plays short check in tmpg dvd author in the edit mode and go to the last minutes you are missing with powerdvd and see if its there, also play the suspected vob file with media player and check it that way.

The vob was definitely missing the last 5 minutes.

But I fixed the problem. I thought maybe I had an audio prolem since two different video files both cut off at the same point. The same audio file was used with both.

I used Vdub to extract a WAV from my original AC3 and ran that thru ffmpeg. This time the AC3 output was several mb's larger than the 1st one. When I used that in DVD Author everything was there.
