    What is the best software to use to trim the mpegs so that the join is in sync and does not step back

    I think it depends on the method you use to author. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author and I just put the two parts of the adjusted SVCD into it as seperate videos and let them play one after the other. There is a 2 second or so overlap from the original DVD2SVCD files that is barely perceptable, but it could be easily trimmed in TDA by adjusting the end point of the first file.
