  1. My Toshiba SD-2800 DVD-Player seems to have some issues playing back DVD+R media.

I use Nero 6 to burn the movies.

It seems to play DVD-R DVD's created as DVD-Video just fine.

But when I use DVD+R media (This is the only media my burner can use) I have to encode it as a UDF DVD otherwise it gets a read error, also when the disc is playing it sounds odd, I get little metal, scraping type sounds coming from the drive (not loud but enough to annoy you). When you get to about the 1 hour mark or so of a movie the video starts to break up.

Has anyone else experience this problem? If so is their a fix?

    Thanks

My 2800 has no trouble with DVD+R, play them all the time. Sonds like the burn is not compliant or the player is dirty.

  3. I have no problems playing any other media except DVD+R so I'm sure the drive is not dirty.

What program / settings do you use to burn DVD+R?

  4. ssfoxhound,
I have the SD-2800 and have no trouble playing DVD+R discs. I've used DVDDecrypter v3.2.2.0, DVDShrink v3.1.7, and DVDFab v0.17.1 software, using Fuji media burned with Sonic on a NEC-2100a. The only thing I've noticed is that the SD-2800 will not play DVD+RW on Fuji media, which is the only media I've tried so far.

I've never gotten my Toshiba SD-2800 player to play any DVD+R(W)s. I've tried Maxell, Fuji, CompUSA. I've had no problems playing DVD-R(W)s. When I put in a DVD+R(W) I always get disc error. How in the heck do you guys get them to play?

  6. I've been using this tutorial to burn DVD+R's using NERO 6.

Seems to work. Just not sure why I'm getting the above problems. If you try and burn the DVD+R as a DVD-VIDEO then play it in a Toshiba it will give you a Disc Error. I have only had this problem with Tohiba DVD players so far.

I never had a single problem with my APEX AD600A that thing played everything until the DVD-ROM died.

I have the SD-2800 also and it plays +R media fine (Memorex, Fuji, Ritek, Verbatim, HP, etc). I use an old HP DVD200i and with it's bitsetting utility I have used Fuji DVD+RW media in the SD-2800 with no problem.
Do use Nero-had a few problems with it so I use Record Now Deluxe with no coasters and good compatibility.

Nero 6 is probably the culprit. I use Nero 5.5.10.x

  9. I used to use nero 5.5.10.x when I was burning CD's. I upgraded to Nero 6 when I bought my DVD writer thinking it had better DVD support.

I have tried other programs with little success when burning as a DVD-Video disc.

I have TMPG DVD Author, not sure how that works for burning DVD's I use it more for producing the actual DVD layout.

I could just rid myself of the headache and buy a DVD-R / DVD+R burner. 8)

    Thanks for the help guys.

  10. Got tired of fighting with the Toshiba so I went out and bought a Sony 5 Disc DVD Player (DVP-NC625) it was the only DVD player that actually guranteed DVD+R playback and the price was right.

So far I have yet to have a single issue it plays DVD-R, DVD+R and VCD's perfectly. I have tried DVD+R's written in DVD/UDF and DVD-Video modes and both work flawlessly. Even the menus and chapter advancing work great.

If anyone here is looking for a DVD Player I would highly recommend checking this player out.

    Thanks everyone for the help.
