philips dvp642 firmware upgrade

Hi,
just upgraded the firmware on my philips dvp642 player. The tv screen is black, I don't even get the screen saver. Tried pressin the key sequences on the remote for switching between Pal->NTSC, deactivating progressive scan, etc. NOTHING HELPS. Input would be appreciated.

Have you tried unplugging the player for a minute or two?

yes, I've tried unplugging it for more than a few minutes.
it does not do anything. Funny thing is when I try to put any disk in the tray the "STOP" message on the unit's display turn to "STO9" :) Tried calling philips. They told me about the progressive scan diactivation

open tray +1 +ok

still not operational
